Loading ...An app that can act as a replacement user interface for many (not all) functions of the Instinct.

Note: this is a time-limited demo that runs for 2 days so that new users can “try before you buy”. See the full version at http://instinct-software.com/2009/03/kbui/ KBui is a customizable launcher application for your Instinct. It can launch and be returned to from many built-in phone functions, such as email, SMS, phone, calculator, navigation, calendar, music and TV functions. It can also launch other phone features such as the web browser, as well as launching other applications like Opera Mini and Sprint's new OZ IM client.
KBui also allows you to arrange icons as you wish on 3 separate pages of 24 icons each. Screen backgrounds may be downloaded from any image URL on the Internet. Widget functions allow single-touch access to dial or SMS a saved number, open a browser to a saved web site.
Themes available for use can be viewed at themes.killerbeaglesoftware.com

Please note that there are many limitations to what KBui can do, because of software limitations of the phone and security restrictions imposed by Sprint. KBui is only an application and cannot permanently replace your phone’s user interface. Many phone functions cannot be controlled by or returned to from KBui. Great App.! I got just one thing to ask! Can the contacts button be linked to the phone book? Right now it just opens the texting contacts and they don’t do anything. thnx

I cannot get any of the themes to load. They all do what the Dark Frosty theme was doing a few days ago–”Each time it ‘attempts’ to load 5 imagines in quickly and then states that the theme is done loading. No icons are loaded.”
Is this just me? I had no trouble loading themes at first, and there are some cool ones out there, but now I can’t get them to load. Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with the themes?

The theme server was not available during a hosting transition, but at the time you posted it was fine. I suspect you have an older version of KBui that is using an obsolete theme server location, or maybe your data service was malfunctioning.

There are a lot of comments so if someone already asked this I apologize, but will there ever be unlimited use? I would gladly pay a couple dollars for an application such as this. It works great

This is great, but how do I change the theme to the neon one? Also, How do I buy this so I can keep using it? It would be nice if my phone always opened to this screen instead of having to load it from games and apps.

Push the camera button, tap the themes icon, type in “neon”, tap load, then go back to themes menu and slide the “apply theme” button.
I can’t make it always open due to Sprint restrictions, but you can add it to your favorites so you can get to it with 2 taps at most.

After updating to the newest version of this app, I attempted load the black-frosty theme (my favorite theme) and it will not load. I’ve tried several times. Each time it “attempts” to load 5 imagines in quickly and then states that the theme is done loading. No icons are loaded.
Is this an issue with this theme? With the newest update? I would really like to be able to use this theme again.

The theme server got moved and that theme got corrupted. It should be okay now.

Thanks for the quick reply; however, I still cannot get that theme to load. (It quickly sayings it’s attempting to load 1-5 images and then says complete, but no images load.) In fact, I cannot get the Dark Knight (“darkknight”) theme to load, either.
It’s a great app and it’s really growing on me. I know you’re working on it–please update us when the themes are working correctly again.

Just one question….what will happen when the demo ends in march 15? I really love the appl, can i use it after that date…PLEASE TELL ME THAT WE CAN USE THE APPL. is so cool that we can have some fun with our phone…if is the “iphone killer” i think we deserve to have acces to things like this…KB u r the best!!! this is a great little program. V2 is a nice improvement over the first version. I’m interested in making themes for this, can you send me the details on the sizes, ect.. for the icon sets.

Hey well, i like the app but customizing it is a pain! im still trying to get the pic’s as a background, and i figured out how to customize my screen but i was hitting buttons, well if anyone knows more than me that would be GREAT! thanks guys

I’m having the same problem as Radical-J. I touch the screen, but nothing comes back up, only the analog clock stays visible, and they are not auto-hiding. The icons have also disappeared on the settings.

There was a bug in the version available over the last two days. If you erase it and redownload, hopefully that problem is fixed.

Great Job! Why is it that once I make a change to say weather the rest of the icons dissapear? Thedy are there but the picture of the icon is gone?!?

The icons are probably auto-hiding. If you touch the screen they should return.

I’ve been following your stuff since the LWUIT demo, piano, flashlight, etc last year. Bought the I-Clone a while back. I gotta say man u ROCK, this one tops them all, u are really bringing out the potential of the Instinct. Keep it up, U Da Man! Take care…

Nice app. I like it a lot. Will we eventually be able to assign buttons for any other app we like? (In other words, create new “types”.)

You will be able to launch most add-in apps. Internal phone functions that haven’t been documented by Sprint may never be launchable.

I know that jpg and png images work for downloaded backgrounds. Oversize images will be resized to the correct 240×412, but much oversized images will cause an out-of-memory error.
