Shopping Assistant 1.6
Store multiple lists and calculate totals as you shop.
Buy It Now – $2.99
TIP: Enter items without price and then go to the list and tap the dollar sign to add a price. Prices can be easily updated by tapping the dollar sign – no need to recreate the item.
New Features in 1.6
- Item Calculator – enter the price of items and know what your total is as you shop. Stick to your budget and no more surprises at the register. Price items in your favorites list and you will know what you are going to spend as you make your list! Re-add items to your list by un-checking them. I also use this feature to track monthly budget – enter what you bought and how much it was.
- No more retyping lists – checking off an item will no longer delete that item (items can still be deleted by using the edit list button).
- Sort master lists
- Application has an icon
- For upgrading users – this will preserve any lists / favorites you already have in place.
Features
- Store multiple lists with touch screen access to detail lists
- Store as many items as you need in any detail list
- Sort your detail lists so you can buy products in the same order you usually shop for them
- Favorites list will prevent retyping of items you commonly buy
- Easily X off items as you shop
- Undo button in case you mark off an item by accident while shopping
- Delete master lists you no longer need w/confirmation only

What about a setting that allows you to alphabetize your saved items? I know I can rearrange them myself but I think it would be a great addition to the app.
I love it though! Great job:) Thanks.

I have a suggestion for an add-on. Since this app is for shopping lists, it might be good to have sub-lists…My thinking is for gifts. You could have sub lists like Christmas, Birthday, Anniversary, etc…Then have sub lists under each such as names…For example: Gifts / Christmas / Mike, Jenny, Sara / Gift items for each…For me, that would help out the Christmas shopping as well as birthday shopping, etc. Thanks for a great app.

My hat’s off Sr.! Excellent work. I wonder what you (peppielavine)and the users of the application think of my suggestion. How about a coupon indicator? I make 99% of my groceries shopping at the local commissary and use as many coupons as possible to fight the surcharges. I find myself looking over and over for a coupon that I used last week, sometimes I overlook or forget that I have a coupon for certain item. The indicator might be as simple as a dot or square of whatever color, placed in the item’s line. That way, one will always know if there is a coupon or not. Thanks for considering it, as I know you will. Users, speak up!

I like Sirsabre’s suggestion for multiple items.
One operational quirk I notice is that if you lock the screen while in a list and then unlock the screen it boots you out to the list of “lists”.
A request or suggestion I could offer, would be a “quantity” column next to the X. Since you are running out of real estate on the screen per line, maybe when you highlight an item, it could scroll the text across since tapping on the item doesn’t do anything currently. This could also allow a few more characters per item. Maybe you could do the same with a “price” column. That would eliminate the need for the “$” on the left.

I love this app, excellent work.
I have a suggestion/request… Is it possible to add a button that allows you to make one item multiple instead of adding it to the list multiple times? I mean like you have the main price and then you can tap a “+1″ button to add as many as you buy?
Thanks!! And as mbrulla says… you deserve a cookie or 2..:P

I’m thoroughly impressed. The graphic quality is really very good with this app, the responsiveness is spot on, and with the new price option it’s likely to be one of my most used apps. Very well done…and if we were on I-S I’d give you a cookie…lol.

Excellent job with the upgrade and thanks for being so attentive to your patrons through your quick responses! I have been running through the kitchen looking for prices so I can ad them to my favorite items. This is fun

Sales tax is added to pretty much everything but health care needs in my state. When I have a list that should not have sales tax – such as my budget, I change the rate to zero. Would your list have taxable and non taxable items? The only thing I can think to do is allow an option to set up items in favorites as taxable or non taxable. I also am not sure how to handle bottle deposit, but it still gives a very close estimate of what you will be spending (mine was within $1.50 on a $65.00 list).

In my state food, health care products and Bibles are not taxable, but just about everything else is.
We are not charged a bottle/can deposit here so that is not an issue but I can see where it would be in other places.

This has evolved into a truly amazing application for our phone. The author has been responsive to our suggestions. I for one will be sending an additional donation.
Two issues however.
1. If users of prior versions are having trouble re-ordering their items, you can no longer move things around in the normal screens. Click on the pencil icon in the upper right corner and you will be able to move items to a new location. Be careful and do not click on the trash can icon or you will obviously remove that item from the list.
2. The option to set your local sales tax level is a nice feature. However I do not see any way to differentiate between a taxable and non-taxable item. As is, I would assume everything gets sales tax added. (Even food) Needs a way to resolve this.

Great APP! I like how quickly the add from favorites works, you can just keep clicking items to add them. Definitely worth more than 2 bucks. The calculator would be a nice addition. Thanks!

Pretty nice application. There are a few things I would like to add since using this app.
1st: Saving an entire list seems to be a must as well. After the list has been used you have to add the items all over again which can be a little repatative.
2nd: Is more of a wish list request but would make this the ultimate.
.: Item Calculator :.
If we can add the price to each item so that once you add each item to a list it calculates the total! That would help me know what I can and can’t get under my budget.
All in all its a nice applications. Keep up the good work.

I really like the idea of the item calculator. I am already drawing up specs for it. Your best bet to prevent re-typing at this point is to add your items to your favorites list and recreate your list from that. There are other things in the works for this app as well. On a side note, depending on upgrades I may raise the price of the app, but a paid user is always entitled to new versions of my apps at no charge – I will just push the new version to your phone when the app is released. I will also post a note here saying I pushed out a new version so check here if you are confused as to why you got a text with the shoppingassistant name in it. Thanks everyone. peppielavine.

Another thing that needs to be worked out.
In it’s present form you can drag and drop items to rearrange their order but as soon as you need to add new items or restart the program, the order reverts back to the order in which items were originally added. Needs to retain moved positions. Thanks again. I’m not trying to be critical; just suggesting things that would make this a great little program.

Peppielavine,
A very simple way to implement it.
Click on an item in a list and the background turns yellow indicating that It needs to be purchased. Click on it again and it returns to white when purchased. Seems like this would do it for me until you come up with something more elegant.

That approach would be great. Looking forward to any improvements that would prevent the need for adding items all the time. My main use for this program would be for a shopping list (groceries) and once entered the items should be “re-usable”.

im not trying this one. seems like its another dolph1nk1ng app. i might be wrong but i dont think i am. his duckhunt one is great but seems now hes throwing anything he can together just to put up here to make a buck. i dont think none should be putting things out here and charging for them way before there finished in my opinion. i dont hate on anyone for making a buck but theres a difference in charging for something that works well and charging for things that should be considered beta still. either let people try for free for a period of time or dont release till its a polished app.

I spent a lot of time coding and testing this app. This is a finished app. I will take suggestions for improvements but I can assure you I did not just throw this app out here to make a quick buck. I could honestly make more working part time at minimum wage. Anyway, I have been thinking about BUNK’s comment and I am going to look into a way to allow users to add in favorite items which then can be placed in a list to prevent re-typing of common items – thanks for the feedback everyone. I appreciate the constructive criticism. If anyone else has anything they would like incorporated let me know. peppielavine.

Easy to use but tedious. It would be nice if you added a check box to indicate that you need an item that could be unchecked when purchased rather than deleting the item from the list each time. Unless I’m missing something it looks as though I would need to re-enter my grocery list every time I shop. Not cool!
